Love Cats

As I listen to old rock songs

with the rain lashing windows

I remember a young girl

with care abandoned

running across a rain soaked

Toorak Road

on a track of shimmering lights

leading her to the bar

where the laughter of work left behind

filters down through the rush of cars

We were wonderfully, wonderfully pretty

love cats on the prowl

with a night of opportunities waiting

and the future was a whisper

waiting for a soundtrack

  1. HA! reminds me of The Cureβ€”part of the soundtrack to my growing up.
“on a track of shimmering lights
    leading her to the bar
where the laughter of work left behind
filters down through the rush of cars”
    Love that passage. Well done.

  2. Dear Love Cat. I am 47 and still open to running barefoot in summer night fields with a beer in each hand and a rose in my hair. πŸ™‚

Meet me barefoot in the field tonight! (Preferably one with the snow all melted now.) πŸ™‚

And so glad I did one extra click and found your blog. Over in my comment form you must’ve forgot to type in the “wordpress” part of your site’s adress. But I found You! Thanks to the glorious gods of Google and all the soundtrack whispers ever recorded on rock songs listened to inside rain-lashed windows.

  3. Great One Shot!
    I too love the lines
“where the laughter of work left behind
filters down through the rush of cars”
The next line hit just right as well
    “We were wonderfully, wonderfully pretty”
    A perfectly reminiscent piece.
    Thanks for sharing
