The Fairy House

Knights on white stallions have long since galloped away

leaving the fairy house to stand the test of centuries

like all fairy tales an evil weaves thin lacing shadows

menacing the garden behind the white iron trellis

pastel blue circular towers

almost touch storm filled skies

a wrought iron Rapunzel balcony

hugs the top floor

as lightning charges – electrifying locks of gold

to the ground

it is but a beautiful cage

that sits beyond the dark forest trail

moss covered figs and pines

make strange connections

their grotesque metamorphoses

hover with indifference

where eccentric artists once dallied

in a world of their own making

their princesses frozen in time

waiting for a kiss

but left like sorrow

on the moss covered earth

and the fairy house lives on with promises

of happy ever after

delusions of yesteryear reflected in the mirror

on the wall.

  1. Ah yes, the fairy house lives on with promises of happily ever after. We all believe these promises for a while, don’t we? And probably there is no harm in that. But….if only those knights with white stallions WERE real! Smiles.

  2. fairy tales do not always end as neat as they do in the books you know…..sometimes they are a bit messy…and sometimes the princess must go rescue the prince….and we write our own…not waiting on foregone conclusions….

  3. And it is mostly only in fairy tales that they all lived happily ever after.
Loved all of this but really liked this:
‘as lightning charges – electrifying locks of gold
    to the ground’
Sad when we expect life to have the heroes in fairy tales and, it doesn’t. Lovely capture but, yes, we make our own real life fairy tales too, don’t we?
