Lines on Paper can lead to adventures if only in the mind

Lines on Paper can lead to adventures if only in the mind.

In a crisscross world
you could have been the prince
who lived with me in a coral palace
writing poetry in the fine sands
smoothed over by waves and time
but as it is, life is drawn then rubbed out
so many times

we live in incomplete sketches
that never make it to the frame
let alone a wall

scribbling, dabbling, correcting scars
etched on our heart’s journey
words form pictures, pictures from words

sitting like
self imposed exiles
our worlds just lines on paper
sometimes a precise fit
at others, trying to find a comfortable flow

despite it all
such utterings are temporary
a first draft
in a new imagination
with uncertain beginnings and no distinct endings
mind fictions filling sacred spaces inbetween phrases
but it’s the only real story
I can live with… in this moment in time

and I bet that coral palace
has been claimed
by the sea
but I do have a mind
to construct
a new one

  1. Di, this is a poem I shall read and reread – I love all of it, so won’t select any for a special mention as I really like it holistically. You say so much with great economy.
