Morning mists of summer
hover over chattering lorikeets
a drip plays a soft continuous beat
from the drainpipe
creating patterns on the paver below
where a mottled moth
sits
the puppy has a quiet interest
in the luminous beetle
gently tapping it with her nose
the old dog
feels alive in the deceptive coolness
the cat stalks small prey
beneath the frangipani bloom
relishing the cool wash of this morning
a painting in motion
that hangs in the memory
Soon the sun will lift the canopy
And all will retreat
Into the shade of another long hot day
Great poem, but I was amazed at the resemblance to mine!
Thanks for this… I can’t wait for summer!!
What splendid word choices—such a vivid, rich display. As refreshing as morning mist. These sections are my favorites:
“Morning mists of summer hover over chattering lorikeets a drip plays a soft continuous beat”
“where a mottled moth sits the puppy has a quiet interest in the luminous beetle”
Lovely write, Di. š
Love the mood here, so fragile, as peace usually is, but strong like morning coffee.
i so love mornings…and esp. summer mornings..maybe has something to do with beginnings, with things untouched..and you captured this feeling and the mood so well di..
ugh…it has been hot…much cooler today though….love all the textures you capture…perfect descriptions put us right int he scene…the drip, the pavers, the cat and the bug…my cat is playful curious like that too…
Always dig your images. And I really like the use of colour.
Very nice work here.
retreating into the shade is exactly the conclusion i reach. that’s the payoff, slipping off into the cool pool of tree shade.
Vivid and full of motion (love the lorikeets line…)
Wishing you a cool Summer. ;).
Rich imagery in this – very nice!! š
